The city of Agueda in Portugal has wowed the world again by hanging hundreds of brightly-coloured umbrellas above some of its main streets.
Agueda first caught our attention with a similar installation last year – decorating buildings and laneways with umbrellas as part of an art festival called Agitagueda. According to My Modern Met, the “cheery installation” was created “to turn traditional shopping streets into an engaging visual experience”.
Casting pretty sunlight and shadows onto the people below, the whimsical umbrella canopy has been attracting locals and tourists alike.
And it’s not hard to see why.
