DIET AND YOUR PERSONALITY
Does our personality affect the way that we eat?

Of course it does, the same way as our personality affects the way we cope with stress, enjoy different things, fall in love with different people and are suited to different professions.
Unfortunately, many other factors also affect the way we eat including the people we spend our time with, the way we were taught to eat as children, our past weight loss experiences and our day-to-day lifestyles.
This is the reason that weight loss, and even weight control are hard… food and eating behaviour is extremely complex, and there is not one answer or approach that will suit us all.
For those of us who do tend to struggle when it comes to eating for health and weight control long term, taking some time to reflect on your personality and the way it influences your food-related behaviours is a powerful strategy.
Understanding some of our innate and learnt tendencies when it comes to our food intake is ultimately the only way we will be more mindful of these habits and be able to change them long term.

Hi Susie, excellent rundown. I think I am an emotional eater, I eat whenever I have an emotion! Eat when I am happy, eat when I’m sad. Rarely am I not hungry. My motto is to eat for health and be moderate. I eat from all the food groups but basically follow the food pyramid guidelines. I think though, that after a certain age you will follow your gene pool, no matter what you eat. The world has become obsessed with what passes through people lips. And yet there are still an awful lot of people who do not have enough to eat. Cheers, x

Very interesting – I think the key “take away” is: EVERYTHING IN MODERATION! And on that note, “Cheers, Hooplarians!!!”

yep! food affects us every day in many ways. I have been in each of these caterogies over the years. I think that from time to time I will end up back in one or another of these categories.Depending on my circumstance at the time, how I deal with it, what support I have around me and how emontionally strong I am, I will slip up and then I will get back on track. Thats the circle of life. Dont they say food is life.
