$62MIL TO MARRY MY LESBIAN DAUGHTER
Gigi Chao has been getting a lot of friend requests on Facebook since her father, a Hong Kong billionaire, put a $62 million pricetag on her sexuality.
Chao is a lesbian in a long-term committed relationship and reportedly just married her girlfriend Sean Eav, with whom she looks extremely happy in this photo.

However, it didn’t stop her real estate tycoon father Cecil Chau Sze-Tsung going public and offering a small cash incentive – HK$500 million – to a prospective husband who may lure her away from lesbianism.
It won’t surprise you to know that same sex unions are not recognized in Hong Kong. They’re certainly not recognized by Cecil Chau.
Despite the news that his daughter married her girlfriend of seven years in France, Chao told BBC News Asia that his daughter was still single and needed a good husband. His generous offer, he said, had already generated many replies from potential suitors.
“It is an inducement to attract someone who has the talent but not the capital to start his own business,” Mr Chao said.
“I don’t mind whether he is rich or poor. The important thing is that he is generous and kind-hearted.
“Gigi is a very good woman with both talents and looks. She is devoted to her parents, is generous and does volunteer work.”
Such global humiliation for her, such gargantuan denial from him.

According to the London Daily Telegraph, Gigi’s Facebook and Twitter accounts have been inundated with friend requests and followers, but she has written: “No longer accepting Facebook friend requests… sorry.”
The Manchester University architecture graduate has also been reported as saying that she found the news of her father’s marriage bounty “entertaining”.
It does seem like an entertaining chap. Now 76, he has a reputation in Hong Kong as a flamboyant playboy, has never married but has claimed to have slept with 10,000 women.
Despite his public plea for a man to marry his daughter, Chau does insist that he would not force her to marry a man against her will.
Gee, thanks Dad!
We know Dads can be embarrassing, but this is ridiculous.
Do you have an embarrassing Dad story? We’re pretty sure you won’t be able to top this one…

I think this is hilarious! At least Gigi has a sense of humour. My dad is great, and out of all my family is the most accepting of all. He has a granddaughter (my daughter) who is a lesbian and HE announced it at a family get-together and told everyone how proud he was of her. He also has a daughter who is a heroin addict and has rescued her from many a dark, dingy hole (not me, my sister) and so I guess in the big scheme of things your sexual orientation is really a minimal concern.

MoniqueN, when I say ‘hilarious’ I mean it in an – interesting observation of the eccentricities of this man. I agree with you that it seems bizarre that he would rather she leave a happy relationship and shack up with someone who is obviously only in it for the money, but then he goes on to say that he would not make her marry a man against her will, so the whole thing is really for nought?

Wow, it’s like an updated fairytale in which the king offers part of his kingdom for the man who can save his daughter.
However, the story is ruined by the princess not actually being in need of rescue.

When I read this story I was incensed and hoped she would reject the offer. Now I’m thinking a congenial gay man friend could be roped in – take the cash and run – they could share an apartment building/condo to facilitate pantomimes of married bliss when the olds come to visit… Am I too cynical?!

Helen – a excellent idea! Wouldn’t be the first time that such an arrangement has been played out! If this story is true, then the game’s on isn’t it. Mind you, I can’t see Gigi going along with this. Good movie plot, even if not a new one.
It seems some of the respondents here either haven’t read the article or are attempting some kind of humorous mockery. It’s clearly stated that they’re a couple of lesbians who have recently married. Why would you make the comment that you thought Sean was a man if you had read the article.
Maybe you should read the story and think before you make this kind of comment. Surely we have enough people speaking before engaging the brain. Maybe you didn’t realise, but this type of comment perpetuates the stereotypical images of lesbians.
Sounding like an irritable ‘schoolmarm’ here, but just so tired of the ignorant comments which are mouthed by the masses. Yes, we all forget at times…even Germaine Greer. Bur pausing and reflecting before you speak can only contribute to the upliftment and growth of a multi-faceted society.

I made the comment that I thought Sean was a man as she looks masculine. The name doesn’t help either.

@KMO – one would presume both of them, since it’s a picture of the happy couple.

as a lesbian who experienced negative reactions from my parents many moons ago I felt sorry for the daughter and her partner who the father is obviously pretending doesn’t exist. Then I read the comments and well…is it just me or are there more and more judgemental folks commenting at the hoopla lately?
