HOT AUGUST NIGHT WITH NEIL DIAMOND
Neil Diamond’s Hot August Night holds a particularly special place in the hearts of all Australians.
On its release in 1972, it took the Australian charts by storm, spending an incredible 29 weeks at #1 on the Australian Albums Chart.
It became the Neil Diamond album and cemented Neil’s status as undeniable legend. The album and its ‘Goood Looord’ catchcry from Crunchy Granola Suite became inescapable – such was the albums unparalleled ubiquity.
Still one of the biggest selling albums of all time in Australia, this amazing live performance is now set to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
Hot August Night continues to live up to its reputation as “…the ultimate Neil Diamond record” (All Music Guide). While it was originally recorded at Los Angeles’ legendary Greek Theatre in 1972, Hot August Night 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition has been fully remastered, prettied up with deluxe packaging, and features previously unreleased additional tracks. It also includes the nice surprise of never before seen photographs and brand new extended liner notes, personally overseen by Mr Diamond himself.
It’s a true (and lovingly-constructed) celebration of one of the most cherished recordings of recorded music history: Neil Diamond’s latest is not to be brushed off.
And come on, Neil’s got to be doing something right! His five-decade career has just been recognised with a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.
It’s definitely a highlight for the musician. “This is probably the most fun. I didn’t have to campaign for it. They wanted me. They opened their arms and took me in, and that makes it all the better,” he told reporters. [Image left via Getty Images.]
