British author Doris Lessing died on Sunday at the age of 94. Apart from the Man Booker—for which she was shortlisted five times—Lessing won every major European and British literary award.
In 1999, she was appointed a Companion of Honour. The author of over fifty works of fiction was also asked to become a dame of the British Empire, but allegedly turned it down on the basis it was ‘a bit pantomimey.’
