EVERY TRICK IN THE DODGY POLLY BOOK

Education Minister Christopher Pyne’s performance in explaining his position on changes to school funding has been a marvel to observe.

In a string of interviews over the past two days he’s used every trick in the dodgy pollies’ handbook – obfuscation, moving the goalposts, erecting straw men, misinformation, semantics, denial, side-stepping and even offering his credentials as a father – in a breathtaking combination rarely seen in modern Australian politics.

And all with a smirking self-assurance that surely must have both interviewers and listeners, blinking, checking their radio and TV receptions and, finally, questioning their own sanity.
