THE BURN-OUT SOLUTION

SPONSORED POST

I am clearly not the only working mum to have my delicate house of cards fall in a heap all in one week.

You know how it is: the kids, the job, the partner, the friends, the family, the school, the sport, the exercise, the highly strategic military manoeuvres required to keep it all humming along.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my life, but sometimes there is just too much of it.

When everything explodes at the same time, as Murphy’s Law says it must, the old, ‘take a holiday’ solution just isn’t practical. After a recent explosion in my life, a wise friend reminded me of that very handy survival tool, the Micro Break.

If you go to the right place with the minimum of effort, the Micro Break can make two days seems like four.

I’m sure you all have some fabulously healing places to recommend and for the sake if us all, please do.

They’re worth filing under ‘S‘ for ‘survival’.

Here’s my little contribution from my healing magic kit that has Byron Bay front and centre, because apparently there is a very strong female spiritual energy there that the local Aboriginal women have tapped into for thousands of years.

Some months ago, The Byron at Byron offered anyone at The Hoopla a trip to experience their simple and thoroughly stylish resort but… We were all too busy to take it. After a bout of “women’s health issues” all related to my uterus (the Uterus Trilogy, which we will save for another day) and my aforementioned explosive week, I decided it was time to call The Byron at Byron in.

The Byron at Byron, Byron Bay, New South Wales

Set in subtropical rainforest just south of the township of Byron Bay, the resort covers 45 acres, with villas connected by a network of boardwalks. The rooms are comfortable, the setting incredibly private and peaceful. It got me back on track.

Here are my polished stone steps for a calm re-entry back into life, via Bryon Bay. All in a matter of two days and two nights…

Glad you had a nice break but this reads as an advertorial not a witty article on quick de-stressing.

Yes, this is a sponsored post, apologies. Somehow the line was dropped in the edit and is there now.

I hate stealth ads. Now on my “places not to go” list.

Not sure what you mean by “stealth” when it says SPONSORED POST in caps right at the top. Can’t get more transparent than that. Never mind, your loss. Gee, how to ruin a great break. Talk about it!

Well Jane, as a full time working Mum of 3 boys, I drop the balls many times, and I LOVE the idea of a micro break, and a sponsored post doesn’t bother me. I just wish Melbourne was closer to Byron Bay AND fitted into my budget (which is fairly meagre)! Oh well. I will just pray for a Saturday sleep in now that soccer season is over…

Thank you Susan, I appreciate that. Footy ( NRL) for my boys finished last week just in time for the 7.45 am swimming class to start. I think next time we will give a micro break away to someone in the Hoopla community so keep your eyes open for that.

Jane I’m with you all the way on the Micro break idea! Now to find the time…

I have heard about Byron at Byron a lot actually! And everyone always raves about how lovely Byron Bay is. So it’s all set then, I’m going there next opportunity i get.

Glad you returned feeling almost a million bucks.

The micro break sounds wonderful to me. I am currently in need of some mini micro breaks. Admiring poppies in the back yard and a bike ride somewhere pretty helps a lot.

Okay Ladies up front I am telling you that I co-operate Ironbark Wellbeing – a women’s retreat in little old Gloucester 2.5 – 3 hr drive north of Sydney. It is a day retreat and we call it a mini-break because at least you can spend a day away from, well, whatever you want! Meditation, stretching, focus workshop, belly dancing or raw food ‘cooking’ morning tea and lunch provided. A break when you really can’t get away … we did it because we women make soooo many reasons why we can’t get away!

        Hi Jane
Ironbark Wellbeing – no, it is not a place to stay at but we do connect you with a couple of stays were the accommodation is wonderful (one is for 8 to 10 people – and we can actually hold a special retreat there for people) or you stay at few lovely B & Bs in the town and you come and visit the day with us before heading back home – So in essence – come to Gloucester either Friday evening or Saturday morning spend the day looking around (can be arranged) and Ironbark Wellbeing on the Sunday – or if at the Ridge accommodation we can hold the retreat from Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning leaving you plenty of time to get back home!

Jane, you lucky duck, it looks like you had a great time! And it certainly sound like you deserved it, so I am glad to see that you came back smiling.

I had a mini-break in Bendigo recently, and had a superb time. I went up there for the first ever Bendigo Writer’s Festival, and spent all day Saturday and Sunday at events, reading outside, eating in fantastic cafes and pubs – all in the most fantastic weather. I was pretty busy the whole time, but I was so glad I did that. I used the last of my tax money, and it was all so well spent.

Sounds good… except that the capital letters give the impression you have turned quite shrill/manic by the end of your post! (a tip to the writer in you).

Any ideas for a mini break around Ballarat are that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg? The cause of most of my stress is not enough money to pay all the bills so don’t have much to spare!
